Description
Academic Thesis Review Assistant is a Windows desktop application designed to help students review dissertations, theses, research projects and other academic documents before submission.
The application analyses the uploaded document and helps identify issues such as spelling and typographical errors, grammar problems, duplicated words, inconsistent terminology, weak academic writing, citation and evidence concerns, methodology clarity, technical inconsistencies and possible contradictions. It also includes a built-in question-and-answer feature so users can ask questions directly about their own document.
Unlike cloud-based AI tools, the application is designed to work with Ollama running locally on the user’s computer. This means the document can be processed locally using supported AI models, helping users maintain greater control over their academic work and data.
Key features include:
- Full-document thesis and dissertation review
- Spelling, typo and grammar checking
- Academic writing and clarity assessment
- Citation and evidence review
- Methodology and technical-content analysis
- Terminology and consistency checking
- Detection of duplicated words and possible contradictions
- Question-and-answer support based on the uploaded document
- Extraction of key document information such as title, author and supervisor where supported
- Support for PDF, DOCX, TXT and Markdown documents
- Ability to save review results and generated answers
- Local AI processing through Ollama
- Support for selectable Ollama models
The application is suitable for undergraduate, postgraduate, MSc and other research students who want an additional review stage before submitting their work.
Ollama is required and must be installed separately. The default configuration uses llama3.2:3b for document analysis and question answering, together with nomic-embed-text for document retrieval.
Academic Thesis Review Assistant is intended as a support tool and does not replace university supervisors, professional proofreading, formal academic-integrity checks or the student’s own final review.
